City of Newburgh police say that as the weather warms up they will have a stronger law enforcement presence on the streets as a result of partnership with the Orange County Sheriff’s office.

February Newburgh 043 Disappearing SignsNewburgh being the industrial town that it was, there was a lot of signage promoting all of the businesses in town. Most of the signage probably existed down on the waterfront that has since been demolished. However, now and again you can find faint signs of Newburgh’s past like this one on Ann Street. It’s fading but can you see it? It says, “W.L. Smith Co, Mill Supply“. Who knows how long it will last there, but in the mean while it has been captured in time.

An investigation into a reported robbery on Broadway Monday evening led to the arrest of a Newburgh man for possession of a .22 caliber weapon. Police say that a woman reported that she was robbed at knifepoint by approximately six men in a hallway at 222 Broadway.

Firefighters investigated the cause of the fire on the third floor of 192 Broadway.

City of Newburgh firefighters responded to a blaze on the third floor of a building on Broadway Friday afternoon. The cause of the fire in the bedroom of an apartment is still under investigation, according to assistant fire chief Robert Bain, who also said that no one was injured.
